Do you want to lose weight?

by Jacob Burtenshaw, Wellbeing Coach

So I’m guessing if you are still reading this, you are unhappy with your weight. Perhaps you think you’re fat? Or you’re unhappy with how clothes fit? Perhaps even disappointed with what you see in the mirror or in photographs?

Do you have a pile of clothes sitting in the wardrobe? Do you suffer from joint pain or breathing difficulties? Do you have a ‘big day’ coming up like a wedding or birthday and want to look and feel your best? Or do you simply read too many gossip magazines that focus on celebrities and fad diets?

How NLP Techniques can help you lose weight

NLP and Hypnosis weight loss techniques can improve your life significantly without the need to engage in some fad diet. I’m not a personal trainer or even a nutritionist. I am however an NLP Master Practitioner and Hypnotherapist and know that by using NLP or Hypnosis you can change your whole way of thinking about food and body shape so that you will end up eating what you need, really enjoying your food without the feeling of being ‘over full’, and most importantly be happy with the reflection you see in the mirror.

I was out for lunch the other day and was waiting for a friend, and as I often do when I’m waiting for someone, I started to people watch. I noticed a couple of women sit down a few tables away from me. Now the reason that these particular women caught my attention was that from the way they were dressed and the ‘post-workout’ look on their faces, they had obviously just come for lunch after a gym session together.

That’s great though right?

New year, obviously sticking to the New Year’s resolution and tackling the fitness issues they had!

(Now before anyone thinks that I’m mind reading, their conversation confirmed this. Both constantly talked about being ‘fat’, wanting to work on particular ‘problem areas’ they had, etc. whilst waiting for their order.)

The food came out and what happened next was quite astonishing as both started looking at their phones and had no conversation whatsoever with the other woman. With one hand they proceeded to play with their phones whilst the other hand was used to eat.

Within minutes and without taking their eyes off the phones they proceeded to finish off their meals.

Now ignoring the calorie intake, (I’m no food expert but I know that chips, coke and cakes, among other things are not going to help you lose weight) my realisation was that both of these women were unaware of what they were eating. They ate faster than they would have if they were talking to each other and were concentrating on their phones so much that they couldn’t possibly have known when they had had enough. If you let it, your brain will tell you when you are full, however, if it is focused on something else (the phones) and not focused on the task in hand (eating) it won’t register in time and you are left with that ‘over-full’ or bloated feeling.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way judging anyone, only raising a point. If this style of eating is a regular occurrence and these women are left ‘over-full’ regularly then the work that they put in at the gym will be lessened (or even ineffective) and then after a few days or weeks they will give up their New Year’s resolution due to it not working, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy of ‘I can’t lose weight’. This is a very common occurrence in people who are trying to lose weight.

If you are serious about losing weight, NLP and Hypnosis can introduce you to a number of techniques that can help you do so. They will show you how to relax your mind and change your thinking around mealtimes and eating. You can then focus on who you are and who you want to be, how to make the relevant changes but most importantly how to achieve your desired outcome.
Personally I don’t use scales with my clients. I work on results. I work on how they feel, how their clothes fit, how they see themselves. When your frame of mind is right you can get the body you want by being happy in the body you have on the way.

NLP and hypnosis can help you change your mindset!

Because, as I said earlier, once you have had enough, your brain will tell you, so forget about fad diets and this month’s ‘shake’ meal replacement. This is a sure fire way to change your eating habits for the better and lose the weight that you want.
